What I do

Development

I develop applications that incorporate natural language processing, as well as general full-stack web applications. My preferred languages are Ruby and Python, but I'm comfortable working in a variety of others.

Education

I've taught all ages, from kindergarten to seniors, about coding, computational thinking, and digital literacy. I've taught in-person in regions across Canada, including Manitoba, Ontario, and Nunavut, as well as in online settings.

Linguistics

I have a lifelong fascination with language. I've conducted research looking at Kapampangan, Dagaare, and the Algonquian family, with particular emphasis on syntax, phonology, and historical linguistics.

Who I am

Computational linguist in Winnipeg

I'm a combination between a university-taught and a self-taught coder; I picked up a lot of theory while in university, and I've devoted countless hours to improving my skills since. I enjoy making tools that improve quality of life, whether that be my own or someone else's. I'm also deeply invested in training others to be literate about the technology that surrounds us, at a level that's approachable from their current state of understanding.

When I'm not coding (which, honestly, is pretty unusual), I enjoy watching movies about time travel, practicing card magic, and writing with fountain pens.
